"I have never read a book by Ms. Craig, but after reading this book it won’t be my last. She wrote a romantic suspense with two very believable main characters. Both Mark and Annie have been wounded by their pasts, and despite this being a romance the book isn’t filled with istalove or quick fixes; which makes the relationship feel truly REAL.
Then you add a twenty year cold case and the book turns into a dark mystery centering on the death of a child. In fact two murders are investigated in this book.
I honestly got more bang for my buck with this story than most I’ve read recently."

Don't Close Your Eyes Texas Justice Christie Craig Books Reviews
- This author has been a favorite of mine for laugh-out-loud funny romantic comedy so I was eager to read an early copy of this book since it was something different than I was used to reading from her. The suspense and mystery gave the book a more somber tone, but the romance was still captivating and emotional, with her trademark humor peeking through.
Mark Sutton is a detective who has been demoted to the cold case unit due to unprofessional behavior. With each case, especially those involving children, he loses another small piece of his soul. His routine is work, take his dog for a run, work, grab coffee at the local coffee shop, and more work. After a family gathering shakes more details of her recurring nightmare loose, Annie Lakes walks into Mark's office to discuss a possible murder from over two decades ago, and Mark realizes she's the beautiful woman he sees regularly at the coffee shop he frequents. As Mark begins to investigate, the attraction between them grows and their lives become tangled together.
From the first page, Craig's talent for crafting a story quickly drew me in and kept me glued to the page. These characters were so authentic and humanly flawed that they easily made a place for themselves in my heart. Their struggle, pain and uncertainty were realistic and genuine, and I felt every emotion along with them.
After a tragic personal event Mark feels like he doesn’t deserve happiness, and his colorless days are spent trying to make up for one mistake. Annie has brought her life back from complete devastation and finally found her footing, only to realize her mother has been lying to Annie her entire life. Feeling betrayed and alone, she’s drawn to Mark's strength. Annie's kindness, goodness pure heart bring light to Mark's darkness, give his heart new life and help his soul mend.
If you like romantic suspense with a riveting storyline, a little heat and humor, and a story full of heart, you’ll love this book by this masterful storyteller.
*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review. - I have read all of Christie Craig's books and I couldn't wait for this one to come out. As usual, she writes an amazing story! Her characters always come to life and I see the book playing out like a movie in my head (which is my reading a book) Not all authors can do that but she does and this one is no exception. I felt Annie's pain of being ignored with the dreams and thoughts she suffered from. I loved Mark, he is one of the good guys even though his flaws sometimes work against him but then everyone's flaws do that. This was a book that I wanted to finish to know what happens but then taking it slowly because I didn't want it to end and you know that point where you ask - will the next book be as good?
- Annie Lakes is plagued by nightmares of a young girl running through the woods, bleeding from her leg and holding a bloodied teddy bear. The nightmares don’t make sense and her mother swears the scar on her leg was from falling from her bike. Annie reluctantly attends her mother’s brother’s funeral and quickly realizes why her deceased father never let her meet that side of the family. Her nightmares turn into memories and Annie goes to the police.
Det. Mark Sutton of the Cold Case Unit gets the case. Is he more interested in the case or of the girl from the coffee shop who he’s been lusting after for months? Should he believe the nightmares of a young girl after 25 years? Annie is holding back or suppressing important info on the case or is she crazy? He should talk as he suppresses secrets of his own, secrets that keep him from getting close to anyone.
I love Christie Craig’s writing. Every page sends you in a different direction. The reader never knows where Ms. Craig will take you next. The story doesn’t come together until the very end. Kudos for real romantic suspense. - Don't Close Your Eyes is a super romantic suspense book! I've had a hard time finding a book that captures me but this one did it!! The suspenseful plot is captivating and a roller coaster ride! I could not predict the outcome, the suspense had my attention and it played out very well! I loved the romance and the build of the two main characters in this book. They are both hurting from past events that have shaped their whole lives and made them into who they are today, and this is not an easy journey for them. I liked how these characters were with each other, and watching the evolution of their relationship was emotional! The romance and the suspense combined at times gave me shivers, at other times warmed my heart and at even other times had me wondering how these two could possibly make it. There are a lot of great secondary characters in this book (I LOVED Fred!!) and I look forward to seeing more of them in future books! This is a really good read I'd recommend!!

I honestly got more bang for my buck with this story than most I’ve read recently. - What can I say except I’m reading it AGAIN! I love Christie’s writing. I must say however I waited on this book because of the cover. I’m one of those people who judge a book by its cover. I know! Don’t judge me. There was something about it that I immediately thought the cover looked like a YA read with supernatural topic but after I kept seeing reviews I gave it a try. I’m glad I did because I’m reading it a second time! I loved it that much! The heroine, the hero and their friends! Not her extended family so much! Ha! I recommend giving this book a read. I’m already looking forward to the next installment of this series.
